UK Work Requirements

This section outlines eligibility criteria for UK doctors and doctors coming from abroad. Eligibility is impacted by the recent DoH changes to the immigration rules for postgraduate doctors and dentists, so please be sure you read this section carefully.  Further information on these changes can be found by clicking the news link on the top right hand of this page.

UK and EU Doctors

All doctors who wish to work in the UK must have 6 months recent UK experience and the following:

Doctors coming from outside the EU

If you live outside the EU, we cannot place you in work unless you already have GMC registration and recent UK Experience. To be eligible for GMC registration, you will need to sit PLAB or IELTS language tests and then apply to the GMC. From 7th March 2006 onwards, as a result of the changes to the immigration rules, we must also prove that the position cannot be filled by a UK or EU doctor.
