What is a RMO ?

RMO stands for Resident Medical Officer and plays a vital role in hospitals throughout the UK. It is the perfect opportunity for those who wish to study for post graduate exams or for doctors looking to expand their clinical experience whilst earning a good salary. Many RMO’s stay on in the UK and work within the NHS. RMO work is the perfect opportunity for you to achieve this.

Being a RMO means that you are resident at the hospital for 24 hours for the period of your cover. Most rotas are either one week on / one week off or 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off. During your cover you will be on call 24 hours during which time you must remain on the hospital site at all times. Meals and accommodation are provided free whilst on duty and there is usually satellite TV available.

During your off weeks you will have time to study or visit different parts of the UK or return to your home country to see your loved ones! If you require help in setting up off-duty accommodation, or advice on travelling throughout the UK or abroad, then we will be pleased to assist you.

At Advantage Healthcare we believe in offering a personal service and will help you every step of the way including organising bank accounts, meeting you from the airport and taking you to the hospital that you will be working in and CV and Career advise if you need it. If you need help you with your travel arrangements - whether that is using your off duty times to visit different parts of the UK or going home to see your family we are here to help you.

We also offer an induction period which means you fly out to the UK to meet the people you will be working with and see where you will be living. You will also have the opportunity of shadowing a Doctor so you can be comfortable, happy and familiar with your surroundings and colleagues when you do start your contract. You will be supported by us every step of the way!

Requirements to be an RMO

To work for us as an RMO you will need to meet the following criteria and we will assist you in obtaining these.

  • Good standard of English – ILETS level 7. Visit www.ielts.org for more details.
  • Full GMC registration - with no restrictions (we will reimburse the cost*).
  • Two satisfactory and recent work references.
  • Recent ALS and PALS/EPLS certificates (within 2 years from employment start date) (*Free).
  • A police clearance report from your country of origin or Enhanced Disclosure under the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) (*we will pay).
  • The right to work in the United Kingdom without a Work Permit visit www.homeoffice.gov.uk.

A good level of written and spoken English is essential as you will be required to communicate with patients and colleagues in a clear and concise way so you do not compromise the patient in any way. If you are in any doubts about the level of your written or spoken English contact your local IELTS centre – www.ielts.org.

During the interview process you will be clinically assessed to ensure that your skills and experience meet our and our clients needs.
